Important Conditions

  • The bursary is reviewed and renewed each year based on the student’s academic performance, engagement, and the sponsor’s available funding. Approval in the first year does not guarantee funding for the entire duration of your studies
  • Recipients are required to fulfill a work-back commitment for each year of bursary support received from Capitec. Failure to meet this obligation may result in repayment of the bursary amount, including interest charged at the prevailing prime rate
  • Applicants must disclose any paid employment and must be enrolled as full-time students. If it is later discovered that an applicant provided false information, failed to disclose relevant details, or was not studying full-time, the bursary may be withdrawn and all funds received may need to be repaid. This condition also applies to inaccurate information provided during the application process, interviews, or after the bursary has been awarded
  • Bursary awards will be made in accordance with the organisation’s Employment Equity plan.

Applicants may be required to complete various stages of the selection process, including screening, shortlisting, interviews, and psychometric assessments, depending on the progress of their application.

Eligibility Criteria

The Capitec Bursaries Eligibility Criteria are as follows:

  • Officially recognized as a citizen of South Africa (must have a 10-digit South African Identity Document number)
  • Owns an official National Senior Certificate
  • Passionate about pursuing your studies in one of the qualifications mentioned above
  • Has a clear criminal and credit track record
  • Open to 2026 matric students, students on a gap year after completing matric in 2025, or those registered for full-time studies in 2026 at any DHET/CHE-accredited tertiary institution (universities, colleges, or private colleges)
  • Students on a gap year after completing matric in 2025, or students registered for full-time studies in 2026 at any DHET/CHE-accredited tertiary institution (universities, colleges, or private colleges).
  • Qualification Level: Available for NQF Level 7 (or higher) programmes, specifically Bachelor’s Degree or Honours.
  • Not Eligible for:
    • Qualification levels: N4/5/6, Higher Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Master’s, or Doctoral programmes
    • Institution types: TVET Colleges, Community Colleges, Graduate/Business Schools, or distance-learning institutions (e.g., UNISA).
  • Grade 12: A Bachelor’s Pass with a minimum overall average of 65% or above
  • Tertiary Level: A minimum average of 65% or above for the latest full academic year (2025 results and ongoing 2026).

Depending on the application stage, candidates may be required to undergo screening, shortlisting, interviews, and psychometric assessments.

Closing Date
Applications for the Capitec Bursaries must be submitted before the closing date on Wednesday, 12 August 2026 at 2 pm.
