About the The Mandela Rhodes Foundation
The Mandela Rhodes Foundation is one of Nelson Mandela’s three official legacy organizations. It was established in 2003 in conjunction with the Rhodes Trust and is one of Mandela’s three official legacy organizations.
The foundation aims to develop outstanding leadership potential in Africa by enabling young Africans who want, through the application of their abilities, to serve their communities and the continent. His idea that true leadership starts with inner change, as well as the organization’s basic values of reconciliation, education, entrepreneurship, and leadership, serve as the foundation for its program.
About the Mandela Rhodes Foundation Scholarship 2025
The Mandela Rhodes Foundation Scholarship is a programme that aims to uplight young African individuals who aspire to bring out the best of their studies. The Mandela Rhodes Scholarship provides full financing for the most important expenses connected with your academic pursuits, including tuition and fees.
Successful candidates are entitled to coverage for their tuition for Postgraduate studies (Honours and Masters degrees) in ANY field at a South African institution of higher education that is recognized internationally. As a foundation for its scholarship program, the organization adheres to four fundamental principles: reconciliation; education; entrepreneurship; and leadership, with the notion that true leadership starts with inner change. The scholarship is open to students from all African countries, to study at selected institutions in South Africa.

Scholarship Coverage
The Mandela Rhodes Foundation Scholarship covers the following items:
- Accommodation and food allowances
- Personal allowance
- Grants for research and conferencing might be made available on a request basis
- At the beginning and completion of their studies, foreign scholars may fly in economy class from their home countries to the institutions where they are studying
- Tuition and registration costs as determined by the university or institution where you are enrolled
- An allowance for study materials
- A medical assistance allowance.
Important note: The Mandela Rhodes Foundation does not cover the costs of your university application fees or the validation of your current degrees via SAQA, which may be a condition for admission to your study through the Mandela Rhodes Foundation. In addition, we do not give financial assistance with visa applications.
Payments of allowances are made twice a year. In addition to providing evidence of registration at the start of the year, you will be expected to submit a progress report from your institution two weeks following the start of the second semester to the department. You are responsible for paying your tuition and registration costs directly to the tertiary institution, while all other allowances are paid directly to you.
Eligibility Criteria
Make sure to send in your application for the Mandela Rhodes Foundation Scholarship as soon as possible. But first and foremost, you must review the program’s qualifying requirements. The Mandela Rhodes Foundation Scholarship Eligibliity Criteria are as follows:
- Must show a strong academic performance with at least 70% marks for your subjects (or an upper second)
- Displays impressive leadership qualities in your campus/community
- Between the ages of 19 and 29 during the time of applications
- Officially recognized as a citizen of South Africa or a citizen of an African country (please be kindly advised that you will be required to study in South Africa at a South Africa higher education institution)
- Currently pursuing your postgraduate studies (Honours and Master’s degree) in any study field of your choice (except MBAs).
Application Instructions

For the purpose of submitting their applications, candidates are needed to create an account on the application site. It will be necessary to log into this account for the length of the registration procedure.
Candidates will be required to upload the following documents:
- Certificates of completion for your degrees
- Transcripts of your academic results
- Scans of your Identity Document
- Passport Documents
- Two short essays, one about your personal journey, and another one based on the scholarship’s specific question.
Important note: In order to begin their studies at a South African institution, applicants from outside of South Africa may be required to undergo SAQA verification.
By submitting your applications, you are granting permission to the selection committee to use your personal information for the purpose of registering you for the event.
Applicants’ applications will be subjected to further examination and vetting processes in order to ensure that they are legitimate. Anyone who is found to be misrepresenting any element of their applications will be barred from participating in the registration period.
Candidates are required to submit their applications using the website linked to above. Attempts to submit materials via other means, such as hand delivery or fax, will be rejected by the selection committee.
Closing Date
Applications for the The Mandela Rhodes Foundation Scholarship must be submitted before the closing date on 21 April 2024.
By enrolling as quickly as possible, you can ensure that your application is secured as soon as possible. However, this does not guarantee instant success and is just intended to provide you with a secure position throughout the recruiting process.
Candidates that submit their applications after the deadline will not be considered by the selection committee. All entries received past the closing date will be immediately rejected, regardless of their content.
The Mandela Rhodes Foundation has the right to offer or deny employment to anybody at its discretion. The selecting committee’s judgments are final and binding on all parties involved.
