The role of the Food and Beverage Manufacturing Sector Education and Training Authority (FoodBev SETA) is to encourage, assist, and promote skill development in the industry. The establishment is one of the 21 Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) designated to implement the National Skills Development Strategy (NSDS) throughout the economy is the FoodBev SETA.

The establishment seeks to provide the Food and Beverage Manufacturing Sector with adequate and appropriate knowledge and skills, increase the sector’s accessibility to knowledge and skills, including but not limited to rural areas, establish a reliable institutional mechanism that facilitates skills development with greater efficacy, and remain relevant by offering high learning standards and qualifications.

About the FoodBev SETA (Food Beverage and Manufacturing SETA) Bursary 2023
FoodBev SETA (Food Beverage and Manufacturing SETA) is offering a bursary for Masters and PhD students looking for fundind to support their 2023 academic year. The FoodBev SETA (Food Beverage and Manufacturing SETA) Bursary is formed to support students who are pursuing the field of Food and Beverages Manufacturing value chain. You will be given the assistance you need as an awardee to pursue your academic degree. Awardees of the FoodBev SETA (Food Beverage and Manufacturing SETA) Bursary will be entitled to the following remunerations:
1. Masters Students
Registration costs, tuition expenses, research fees, and prescribde study materials, with a maximum value of R120 000 (for your entire study duration). Awardees will be expected to do course work. The students’ approved research topics will be evaluated beforehand.

2. PhD Students
Tuition expenses, research-related costs, with a maximum value of R150 000 for your entire study duration. The students’ approved research topics will be evaluated beforehand.

Eligibility Criteria

The FoodBev SETA (Food Beverage and Manufacturing SETA) Bursary Eligibility Criteria are as follows:
1. General Requirements

  • Officially recognized as a citizen of South Africa or a permanent resident
  • Currently registered to pursue your studies towards either a PhD or Masters degree in the upcoming 2023 academic year
  • Enrolled in an accredited public university based in South Africa
  • Not obtaining any funding from other bursary programmes (subjected to confirmation by the University Bursary Office)
  • Preference is offered to candidates originating from previously disadvantaged groups.

2. Masters Students
Your supervisors must ensorse your research topics and must be relevant to the field of Food and Beverages Manufacturing Value Chain

3. PhD Students
Already have a Research Proposal that is approved by the university (must include timeframes and your expected year of completion (within 2 to 5 years)).

Additionally, you will be required to provide the following documents:
1. PhD Document Checklist

  • The university’s Tax Clearance Certificate
  • Proof of registration for the 2023 academic year
  • Research topics (proposal) endorsed by the supervisors (relevant and responsive to the food and beverages manufacturing value chain)
  • Signed declaration
  • A copy of the student’s certified ID (not older than 6 months)

2. Masters Document Checklist

  • A research topic (proposal) endorsed by the supervisor
  • Proof of registration for the 2023 academic year
  • Signed declaration
  • The university’s Tax Clearance Certificate
  • A copy of the student’s certified ID (not older than 6 months)

All these documents must be included in your application dossier. Incomplete applications will automatically be disqualified from the programme.

The whole selection committee, which includes you, will evaluate the information you submit. You should thus double-check to make sure there are no false statements. Candidates may be put in a risky situation if there is any indication that they are providing misleading information.

Candidates must use the aforementioned website to submit their applications. Submissions delivered by hand, fax, or any other method will not be accepted by the selection committee.

Closing Date
Applications for the FoodBev SETA (Food Beverage and Manufacturing SETA) Bursary must be submitted before the closing date on 17 February 2023.

Applications received after the deadline will not be considered by the selection committee. Submissions sent after the deadline won’t be recognized while registration is open.
