PRASA is driving the government’s efforts to change public transport in South Africa, delivering improved mobility and accessibility in the interest of making life overall better for everyone. The Public Roads Administration and Safety Agency (PRASA) was created in accordance with Section 22 of the Legal Succession to the South African Transport Services Act of 2008. (as amended). It is a public organization that is entirely owned by the government and reports to the Minister of Transport.

PRASA is directed by the legislative mandate to provide commuter rail services in the metropolitan regions of South Africa, as well as long-distance (inter-city) train and bus services inside the Republic of South Africa, as well as services to and from the boundaries of the Republic of South Africa. The Minister of Transport is involved in the implementation of this mission, and their input and direction is sought throughout the process.

PRASA (Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa) is offering candidates the opportunity to obtain financial aid in three different tertiary study fields. The PRASA (Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa) Bursaries are open to applicants from any and all walks of life and are intentionally designed to be diverse.

The PRASA (Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa) Bursaries is currently available for these study fields: Engineering, Technical and Operation Study Fields.

Awardees of the PRASA (Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa) Bursaries will be entitled to payment for the following items: registration costs, tuition fees, prescribed study materials, accommodation costs, and on-campus daily meals. Please be kindly informed that the bursary programme cannot be used to pay off any outstanding student loans or debts. Selected applicants must sign a contract directly with PRASA.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates will need to request the email from either one of the two email addresses above. Alternatively, you can directly request an application form from the PRASA Hatfield office (Prasa House, 1040 Burnett Street, Hatfield, Pretoria).

Once you have your application form, put in all the required information that will be integral towards the entire registration period.

Additionally, you will be asked to provide the following documents:

  • A certified copy of your Identiy Document
  • A certified copy of your Matric certificate
  • A certified copy of your most updated academic track record (issued on your institution’s letterhead).

By sending in your applications, you are hereby giving permission to the selection committee to have your personal information utilized for registration purposes.

Applications will be subjected to further evaluation and vetting procedures to verify the validity of candidates. Anyone discovered to be falsifying any aspects of their applications will be disqualified from the registration period.

Candidates must process their applications through the portal provided above. Submissions made through other methods, such as hand delivery or fax, will not be accepted by the selection committee.

Closing Date
Applications for the PRASA (Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa) Bursaries must be submitted before the closing date on 30 September 2022.

Make sure you secure your application as soon as possie by registering early. The purpose behind this is to ensure that you have a safe position during the recruitment phase (however, it doesn’t guarantee immediate success).

The selection committee has zero-tolerance for candidates who send in their applications late. All submissions sent past the closing date will automatically be disqualified.
