UFS (University of the Free State) is offering a bursary programme for Honours students who are in need of immediate financial aid to support their education. The UFS (University of the Free State) Honours Bursary is a program that aims to promote inclusivity and welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds. Once accepted into the program, you will receive support and resources to help you succeed in pursuing your academic qualifications. The bursary is intended for individuals who exhibit exceptional academic performance and possess commendable qualities as students. It’s worth noting that the bursary will only provide partial cover for tuition fees and will not cover any outstanding fees from previous years. Eligibility Criteria

The UFS (University of the Free State) Honours Bursary Eligibility Criteria are as follows:

  • Have successfully completed Matric and an undergraduate degree (at any institution) within the minimum prescribed period
  • Not be pursuing an undergraduate degree (regardless of the degree for which you are enrolled)
  • Not already hold an Honours or final year BTech Degree
  • Have attained a minimum average of 65% for undergraduate studies
  • Intend to pursue a full-time first Honours qualification at the University of the Free State in J23
  • Not have received funding from the Centre for Graduate Support in previous years
  • Not be registered for the second year of an Honours degree
  • Not be employed, or receiving any government bursary/scholarship award (including the NRF), or the UFS Staff Study Benefit/Remission on tuition fees
  • Not be enrolled in or intending to study towards a Postgraduate Diploma qualification, including Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting
  • Demonstrate a strong academic ability
  • Hold either South African citizenship or international student status.

Applicants who did finish their undergraduate degree at UFS are not requried to submit your academic record as it will be accessed by the Centre for Graduate Support.

Closing Date
Applications for the UFS (University of the Free State) Honours Bursary must be submitted before the closing date on 28 February 2023.

Applications received after the deadline will not be considered by the selection committee. Contributions sent after the deadline won’t be recognized while registration is open.
