About the SACTWU (Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union) Bursary 2024
SACTWU (Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union) is offering candidates a bursary programme for candidates in need of immediate financial aid.

The SACTWU (Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union) Bursary is granted to eligible SACTWU members, their children, legally adopted children, and spouses. Students who qualify as dependent children of SACTWU members will need to engage in 50 hours of community service. Those who surpass the 50-hour community service requirement will be given an additional 5% of bursary funding.

The bursary covers the following expenses:

  • For studies at public universities: 75% of annual tuition fees, with a maximum limit of R23 450.
  • For studies at private institutions (recognized by the Department of Higher Education): 75% of annual tuition fees, up to a maximum value of R4 690.

Eligibility Criteria

The SACTWU (Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union) Bursary Eligibility Criteria are as follows:

  • Membership in SACTWU or being the offspring of a SACTWU member or a legally adopted child of a SACTWU member or the spouse of a SACTWU member is a requirement
  • The SACTWU member must have paid up union fees at least 13 weeks before 1 November 2023
  • Your enrollment must be in a tertiary institution recognized by the Department of Higher Education (University, University of Technology, private institution – excluding FET/TVET College).
  • It’s essential to investigate your eligibility for NSFAS funding.

Candidates will need to send in the documents below:

  • Obtain a certified copy of your ID document.
  • Submit an ID photo.
  • If you are in your 1st year of study, include a certified copy of your Matric certificate.
  • If you are in your 2nd year or later, furnish a certified copy of your full academic record for all previous years of study.
  • Present a certified copy of the detailed statement of account from your institution for 2024, indicating the cost per module.
  • If you’re a SACTWU member, submit a certified copy of your ID document.
  • Provide certified copies of your latest payslips if you’re a SACTWU member.
  • If you’re the applicant’s biological parent and a SACTWU member, provide a certified copy of the unabridged birth certificate with parents’ names.
  • If you’re the applicant’s legal guardian and a SACTWU member, present a valid letter of guardianship from the Department of Social Development or Court Order, along with certified copies of your marriage certificate, your identity document, your spouse’s identity document, and the student’s biological parents’ death certificate if applicable.
  • If you’re the applicant’s spouse and a SACTWU member, include certified copies of your marriage certificate and both you and your spouse’s identity documents.
  • If you’ve been retrenched as a SACTWU member, submit an affidavit regarding your employment status.
  • If you’re engaged in part-time or correspondence studies, provide an affidavit stating your employment status (employed or unemployed) and include your latest payslip if employed.
  • If you’re a SACTWU member with a child dependent, complete the Application Form to join SASU.

All the documents mentioned above will need to be certified at your local Post Office or Police Station.

Closing Date
