About West Coast District Municipality
The West Coast District Municipality is a Category C municipality in the Western Cape Province, situated on the coast of the Indian Ocean. Each of the five local municipalities has its own administrative center, as follows: Swartland, which has Malmesbury as its administrative centre; Bergrivier, which has Piketberg as its administrative centre; Matzikama, which has Vredendal as its administrative centre; Cederberg, which has Clanwilliam as its administrative centre; and Saldanha Bay, which has Vredenburg as its administrative centre. The district’s administrative center is located at Moorreesburg.
With the five affiliates (local municipalities), the goal of the Western Cape District Municipality (WCDM) is to share the responsibility for local government in their respective areas while also making certain that all communities, particularly disadvantaged communities, have equal access to resources and services. WCDM provides assistance to local governments who lack the financial, physical, human, or technological resources to deliver services that will benefit their communities.
