About West Coast District Municipality
The West Coast District Municipality is a Category C municipality in the Western Cape Province, situated on the coast of the Indian Ocean. Each of the five local municipalities has its own administrative center, as follows: Swartland, which has Malmesbury as its administrative centre; Bergrivier, which has Piketberg as its administrative centre; Matzikama, which has Vredendal as its administrative centre; Cederberg, which has Clanwilliam as its administrative centre; and Saldanha Bay, which has Vredenburg as its administrative centre. The district’s administrative center is located at Moorreesburg.

With the five affiliates (local municipalities), the goal of the Western Cape District Municipality (WCDM) is to share the responsibility for local government in their respective areas while also making certain that all communities, particularly disadvantaged communities, have equal access to resources and services. WCDM provides assistance to local governments who lack the financial, physical, human, or technological resources to deliver services that will benefit their communities.

In order to support South African students who are pursuing the 2023 academic year, the West Coast District Municipality is extending bursaries to students. The West Coast District Municipality Bursaries program is an all-inclusive program that accepts applicants from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds.

As an awardee, you will receive all of the assistance you need to complete your academic degree or certificate program successfully. If you have consistently achieved high academic results while also demonstrating valuable traits as a student, you are strongly urged to apply for this position.

Only 3 applicants will be awarded, with a financial assistance reaching up to R50 000 (minus accommodation costs.) This bursary will cover for the entire 3 years of your qualification, provided that you can fulfill the standards required by the selection committee.

Eligibility Criteria

The West Coast District Municipality Bursaries Eligibility Criteria are as follows:

  • Currently registered at an accredited University or a University of Technology
  • Must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in either one of the study fields below:
    • Accounting
    • Supply Chain Management
    • Risk Management
    • Finance
    • Economics
    • Internal Auditing
    • Information Technology
  • Consideration is offered to students who obtain at least a 40% score in Mathematics or a 50% score in Mathematical Literacy
  • Consideration will be offered to students with an average aggregate score of 60% or higher, or an average aggregate score of 50% higher, with a Mathematics score of at least 60% of higher.

Candidates must provide the documents below:

  • Your Identity Document
  • Your Parents’ or Guardians’ Identity Document
  • Legitimate proof of your permanent residential address of the applicant and parents/guardians
  • Legitimate proof of your parents’/guardians’ salary advice/pay slip/3-month bank statement (if they are unemployed)
  • Grade 12 results slip (statement of symbols) or your most recent transcript
  • Legitimate proof of university registration
  • Copies of your Identity Documents/Birth Certificates of persons dependent on family income
  • An affidavit of guardianships (if you are not staying with your parents).

All these documents must be included in your application dossier. Incomplete dossiers will not qualify for the registration process.
