The Aurum Institute Experiential Learnership 2026: Seeking for Applicants with a Grade 12 Qualification

About the Aurum Institute
The Aurum Institute is a globally engaged public health organisation headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa, with additional staff based in the United States and Europe, and operations extending into Mozambique, Ghana, Lesotho, and eSwatini. The institute oversees a wide portfolio of programmes ranging from large-scale TB prevention initiatives to HIV/AIDS and TB care, treatment, and support services implemented throughout the South African health system. Its work also includes HIV prevention clinical trials, TB and HIV vaccine research, voluntary medical male circumcision projects, and extensive efforts in TB case finding and contact tracing. Through both implementation research and practical, field-based approaches integrated into public health systems, Aurum has built a reputation for delivering impactful, evidence-driven health interventions.
Originally part of the AngloGold Ashanti Health Service, Aurum transitioned into an independent entity in 2005, becoming a registered non-profit and public benefit organisation known today as The Aurum Institute. It was established to address the pressing challenges posed by TB, HIV, and occupational lung diseases within the mining sector, primarily through epidemiological studies and the execution of comprehensive research programmes. Among its most notable early achievements was the Thibela study, the first large-scale intervention of its kind, which successfully enrolled 80,000 participants. This pioneering project laid the foundation for Aurum’s continued leadership in public health innovation, research excellence, and community-focused disease prevention.
