The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) was established on 1 January 2005 as a result of the merger of the PE Technikon the University of Port Elizabeth (UPE) and the Port Elizabeth campus of Vista University. The university is located in Port Elizabeth, South Africa (Vista PE). Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University was officially renamed Nelson Mandela University in 2017, making it the world’s only higher education institution to bear the name of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.

Nelson Mandela University is the only higher education institution in the world to bear the name of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. While the institution was given the chance to rebrand and position itself on a continental and global scale, it was also given the opportunity to usher in a new age of fresh vigor toward genuine transformation as a result of the name change.

About the Tegkor/Nelson Mandela University Accounting Bursary 2022
Tegkor/Nelson Mandela University is offering financial assistance for students of the university who are pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate qualifications. The Tegkor/Nelson Mandela University Accounting Bursary is an all-inclusive program that embraces students from a wide range of various backgrounds and educational levels. As an awardee, you will get all of the assistance you need to complete your academic degree or certificate program successfully. If you have consistently achieved high academic results while also demonstrating excellent traits as a student, you are strongly urged to apply for this position.

Important note: the bursary coverage amount differs for each study level:
1. First Year Students: R12,500
2. Senior Students (2nd-3rd Year Students): R7,500
3. Postgraduate Students: R7,500

Eligibility Criteria

All you have to do is check the requirements below and re-check your qualifications with the selection committee’s standards. If you’d like to stand a chance of acceptance, make sure you fulfill all of the criteria that are mentioned. Failure to do so might not get you automatically disqualified, but it could reduce your chances of acceptance.

The Tegkor/Nelson Mandela University Accounting Bursary Eligibility Criteria are as follows:
1. General Requirements

  • Officially recognized as a citizen of South Africa
  • Must be a full-time student.

2. First Year Students

  • Currently a Grade 12 learner
  • Has been officially enrolled for the first time for the study fields of BCom Accounting or BCom
    Accounting Sciences programmes at Nelson Mandela University in 2022
  • Obtained an Applicant Score of 420 or higher, or at least 80% or above for Mathematics in Grade 12.

3. Senior Students (2nd-3rd Year Students)

  • Currently a student of Nelson Mandela University
  • Pursuing the fields of BCom General Accounting, BCom Accounting (Chartered Accounting), or BCom Accounting Sciences for the 2022 academic year
  • Has an average aggregate score of 70% for your first year modules or 65% for your second year modules
  • Has any documented evidence showing that you made an impactful contribution in 2021
  • Able to fill in the social commitment component, which should include your:
    • Description of the project(s);
    • Period that you were involved in each project;
    • The difference that the project(s) made– i.e. feedback from the beneficiaries;
      and,
    • The number of people that benefited from the project(s).

4. Postgraduate Students

  • Currently a student of Nelson Mandela University
  • Pursuing the fields of Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA-CTA); Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy (PGDA); or Postgraduate Diploma in Internal Auditing (PGDIA) for the 2022 academic year
  • Has an average aggregate score of at least 60% of more for the third year of your undergraduate programme, or a 55% average aggregate score for your PGDA programme.

Important note: preference is offered to candidates recognised as “missing middle” candidates (must have household income of R350 000, but below R600 000, and be able to provide the necessary proof).

Please fill out the application form with your most relevant responses into the appropriate areas. All of the personal information you submit should be accurate and correspond to your actual circumstances.

Additionally, candidates will need to attach the following documents onto the application form:
1. First Year Students

  • Copy of ID document (certified documents not required);
  • Proof of income for your father and mother (Salary slips or sworn affidavits);
  • Final Grade 12 results (certified documents not required).

2. Senior Students (2nd-3rd Year Students)

  • Certified copy of ID document(certified documents not required);
  • Proof of income for your father and mother (Salary slips or sworn affidavits);
  • A copy of academic records; and
  • Documented evidence of significant contribution to society.

3. Postgraduate Students

  • Certified copy of ID document;
  • A copy of academic records (An average of 60% or 55%); and
  • Proof of income for your father and mother (Salary slips or sworn affidavits).

All these documents must be included in your application dossier. Incomplete application swill automatically be disqualified.

Candidates are required to send in their applications via Moodle.

Closing Date
Applications for the Tegkor/Nelson Mandela University Accounting Bursary must be submitted before the closing date on 31 March 2022.

Be sure to send in your applications as soon as possible. An early submission can help you guarantee a spot during the registration period. Plus, it prevents any unwanted last-minute incidents, like sudden heavy Internet traffic or missing documents.

Applications for the programme must be submitted before the closing date. Late applications will not be tolerated by the selection committee, and these kinds of submissions will be disqualified by the programme.

Tegkor/Nelson Mandela University holds all rights to appoint anyone during the recruitment period. All decisions made by the selection committee are final.
