About Sunshine Cinema
Sunshine Cinema is a network of solar powered cinemas that shows documentaries and feature films that highlights Africa’s social justice situation and culture. Based in South Africa, the establishment trains youths to become media facilitators to mobilize their local communities. Sunshine Cinema aims to spread advocacy strategies started by fellow filmmakers and grassroot organizations. The establishment highly encourages audiences to develop a sense of active citizenship through the movies and discussions they hold. With more than 1 000 films screened and a target audience of approximately 50 000 audience, Sunshine Cinema has become a pool of storytellers in the country that allow them to inspire the audiences they reach.

About the Sunshine Cinema Learnership 2022-2023
Sunshine Cinema is offering 10-month full-time learnership programmes to individuals who are interested in Spark Impact Programme. The Sunshine Cinema Learnership is a wonderful opportunity that will commence from 01 April 2022 to 31 January 2023. Participants will be taking upon a “learning by doing” training approach in which you will get to directly implement the skills you have learnt into actual practice. Throughout the learnership, participants will nee to utilize the available resources (e.g. solar cinema kits and laptops) to work on their digital media and marketing abilities. Participants must obtain an actual gig work (e.g. freelance digital marketing, media production work) with up to R1 000 each month. This amount is part of the stipend they will obtain from Sunshine Cinema on a monthly basis.

Candidates have the option to pursue their learnership in either one of these areas below:

• Western Cape (excluding Cape Town)
• Limpopo
• Northern Cape
• Eastern Cape
• North West
• Mpumalanga
• Kwa-Zulu Natal (excluding Durban)
• Gauteng (excluding Johannesburg)
• Free State.

Learnership Responsibilities

• Completing the online accredited NQF 5 course with flying colors
• Following all of the Digital Marketing and Entrepreneurship Training courses
• Attending weekly check ins on Whatsapp
• Planning the screening calendar each month
• Planning the 2 free film screenings on a monthly basis
• Advertising events to members of the local communities
• Organizing a discussion to be held after a screening sessions.

Note: selected participants will be given the necessary training before performing these duties.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates interested in the Sunshine Cinema Learnership must fulfill an eligibility criteria attached to the programme. The Sunshine Cinema Learnership Eligibility Criteria are as follows:

1. Basic Requirements

• Possesses a Grade 12/Matric Qualification
• Currently between 21-35 years old
• Understands basic computer proficiency (e.g. MS Office Word, Excel)
• Has prior experience with community mobilization
• Has two contactable work and character references
• Owns a reliable smartphone to record videos and take videos
• Has a Whatsapp that can be contacted
• Prepared to fully commit their time to the learnership for 9 months (part-time is not allowed).

2. Working Competencies

• Prepared to be fully committed to the 10-month programme
• Shows self-discipline despite working from home
• Enjoys taking up new challenges
• Considered as a hard worker
• Willing to acquire new skills and knowledge
• Meets deadlines as per required (not meeting deadlines will result in disqualification from the learnership)
• Has access to reliable Internet connection.
