Formed in 2009, SOLTRAIN has partnered up with the likes of SANEDI, CRSES and several other universities to increase the awareness of the continent’s huge power deficit. Through the power of cooperation, SOLTRAIN aims to increase the level accessibility and sustainability of energies in several regions. About SOLTRAIN Bursary 2021
SOLTRAIN is offering a bursary programme for South African postgraduate students who require financial aid to pursue their education in solar thermal system. The SOLTRAIN Bursary is a wonderful initiative that aims to support members of their communities to obtain their qualification. Eligibility Criteria
Candidates interested in the SOLTRAIN Bursary must fulfill an eligibility criteria before proceeding with their applications. Each of these items below will determine whether you have what it takes to proceed with this bursary. To guarantee a successful application, candidates are advised to meet all of the following requirements. Failure to do so will cause disadvantageous consequences towards the overall result of your applications. Be sure to jot down these items for personal reference.

The SOLTRAIN Bursary Eligibility Criteria are as follows:

  • Officially registered as a postgraduate student
  • Pursuing an education in the field of solar thermal energy
  • Recognized as a citizen of one of these SOLTRAIN partner countries:
    • South Africa
    • Lesotho
    • Botswnana
    • Zimbabwe
    • Mozambique
    • Namibia.

Application Instructions

Please skim through all of the queries before providing your answers. All of the answers you provide must correctly represent your current conditions.

Additionally, you will need to be required to provide the following documents:

  • Legitimate proof of registration for 2021
  • Your most updated academic transcripts including all current modules
  • A letter of support issued by your supervisor.

All these documents should be included in your application dossiers. Incomplete dossiers will not be accepted by the selection committee.

Candidates must also write a 300-600 word essay regarding their solar thermal project. Priority will be offered any one of the topics below:

  • Potential analysis for solar thermal systems in the health sector
  • Analysis of measurement data from selected systems from the SOLTRAIN project
  • Any topics related to the use of solar thermal technologies for heating/drying/cooling in industrial applications
  • Documentation and analysis of mass housing programmes with mandatory installation of solar water heaters (only Namibia and South Africa).

Lastly, candidates must also provide a 300-600 word letter of motivation sharing why you deserve this bursary programme.

By sending in your applications, you are hereby giving permission to the selection committee to have your personal information utilized for registration purposes.

Applications will be subjected to further evaluation and vetting procedures to verify the validity of candidates. Anyone discovered to be falsifying any aspects of their applications will be disqualified from the registration period.

Candidates must process their applications through the portal provided above. Submissions made through other methods, such as email or fax, will not be accepted by the selection committee.

Closing Date
Applications for the SOLTRAIN Bursary must be submitted before the closing date on 16 April 2021.

The selection committee has absolute zero tolerance for late applications. Submissions made past the closing date will not be acknowledged during the registration period.

Candidates are advised to send in their applications as soon as possible. This will leave you with some time to properly evaluate the contents of your applications. Kindly prepare your applications at your earliest convenience.
