SIOC-CDT (Sishen Iron Ore Business-Community Development Trust) is a trust created by Kumba Iron Ore Limited in 2006 to invest in the development of the communities in which the company works. Awardees of the bursary programme will be entitled to funding to help cover their student-related costs, such as registration expenses, tuition costs, money for study materials, accommodation costs, a quarterly stipend. Additionally, candidates proven to have disabilities will be given assistive devices to help them with their learning process.

Important Note: candidates who are pursuing other study fields are allowed to participate in the bursary – however please be kindly informed that preference is offered to candidates who are studying the courses above.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates interested in the SIOC-CDT (Sishen Iron Ore Company-Community Development Trust) Bursaries must fulfill an eligibility criteria before proceeding with their applications.   • Verify that your combined household annual income does not exceed R600,000

Candidates will also need to provide the following documents:

  • A certified copy of your South African ID document
  • A copy of your most recent academic results, such as Grade 12 June or Prelims results, first-semester university results, or a transcript if you’re applying for your second year or higher
  • A certified copy of your final National Senior Certificate (NSC) results, if you completed matric before 2024
  • Proof of acceptance, provisional acceptance, or application to a recognized public higher education institution (e.g., a university, TVET, or FET college)
  • Proof of residence dated within the last three months
  • Documentation verifying parental or guardian income, such as a recent payslip, a certified declaration of unemployment (not older than three months), an affidavit confirming the absence of parents/guardians, or a SASSA grant certificate
  • A medical certificate confirming the nature of your disability, if applicable
  • A bank statement from the last three months showing your income details.
