About the Sasol Undergraduate Bursaries 2023
Sasol is offering multiple undergraduate bursary programmes for students who are keen on pursuing their full-time studies with the support of financial aid. The Sasol Undergraduate Bursaries is an all-inclusive programme that welcomes people of all different backgrounds. The Sasol Undergraduate Bursaries are available for the following fields:

B.Eng/B.Sc. Study Fields

  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electronic Engineering
  • Chemistry
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Data Science (Computer Science/Mathematics/Operations Research/Statistics)
  • Mining Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Metallurgy
  • Geology (Hons. is a requirement for Sasol)
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Civil Engineering

B. Eng. Tech. Study Field

  • Mine Surveying

Awardees of the bursary will be entitled to coverage for the following items:

  • Fees for registration
  • Tuition costs (there will be no payment for repeat modules)
  • Allowance for prescribed study materials, daily meals, and pocket money
  • Monetary compensation for accommodation
  • A one-time reimbursement for the use of a computer and calculator
  • Available work opportunities (with a work-back commitment or a pay-back obligation) in response to their need.
  • Possibilities for advancement (e.g. possible vacation work after completion of 2nd and 3rd academic year of study)
  • Access to student talks, workshops, EAP – employee assistance program at Sasol, and other forms of psychosocial help are available.

Eligibility Criteria

All you have to do is go over the conditions stated below and double-check your qualifications against the selection committee’s standards. If you wish to be considered, make certain that you meet all of the standards given.

The Sasol Undergraduate Bursaries Eligibliity Criteria are as follows:
1. Basic Requirements

  • Officially recognized as a citizen of South Africa
  • Registered or eligible for prospective registration at a South African university or university of technology for the next year if you are already enrolled or qualified to be enrolled
  • Bursaries are available to deserving persons who want to study full-time towards an undergraduate or postgraduate degree, or who wish to pursue a specific Engineering, Science, or Technology certification for national candidates.

2. Educational Requirements

  • At least a Grade 12 certificate (current Grade 12 students can apply with Grade 11 results)
  • Obtained the following scores for the respective programmes:
    • B. Eng and B. Sc fields:
      • 70 -79% for Mathematics (Level 6)
      • 70 -79% for Physical Science (Level 6)
      • 60 – 69% for English First Additional language (Level 5) or
      • 60 – 69% for English home language (Level 5) or
      • 50 – 59% for English Second Additional language (Level 4)
    • B. Eng, Tech Engineering (Mine Surveying)
      • 60 – 69% for Mathematics (Level 5) and
      • 60 – 69% for Physical Science (Level 5) and
      • 60 – 69% for English First Additional language (Level 5) or
      • 60 – 69% for English home language (Level 5) or
      • 50 – 59% for English Second Additional language (Level 4)

3. Criteria for Current University Undegradaute Students

  • A minimum of 50% must be earned in all courses for which the student has enrolled during the preceding academic year in order to be considered successful
  • The student must be registered for the degree course for which he or she is applying for a bursary over the minimum study period for the degree involved (for example, four years for an engineering degree) and/or be able to complete studies in that minimum period of time if the student is already studying towards the degree course for which the student is applying for a bursary
  • No applications will be accepted from students who are currently enrolled in an extended study period or who have already added a year to the minimum study time (i.e. 5 years for an engineering degree), as well as from persons who intend to enroll in an extended degree course
  • Applications must be for full-time study leading to an academic degree at a South African university that has been authorized and approved
  • Studies at the University of South Africa (UNISA) will not be taken into consideration or granted permission.

Before they may submit their applications, candidates must first register on the application portal and provide their contact information. To continue with the signup process, you must first authenticate yourself using your existing account details.

The information you provide will be used to register you for the event by the selection committee. You grant the committee permission to use your personal information for the purposes of the committee’s investigation by submitting your applications.

Applicants’ applications will be subjected to an additional level of scrutiny and verification to confirm their authenticity. Anyone discovered to have misrepresented any component of their applications would be barred from participating in the registration period.

Candidates must submit their applications through the above-mentioned website in order to be evaluated. Failure to supply materials via alternative methods, such as hand delivery or fax, will result in the application being denied by the committee in charge of examining the application.

Closing Date
Applications for the Sasol Undergraduate Bursaries must be submitted before the closing date on 27 May 2022.
