The South African Forestry Company Limited, or simply referred to as SAFCOL, is a state-owned firm that is responsible for national forestry business activities. The company conducts a number of activities such as timber processing and harvesting on both a local and international scale. About the SAFCOL Artisan Development Programme – Apprenticeships 2024-2027
The South African Forestry Company Limited (SAFCOL) is giving out apprenticeship programmes for young citizens to master their craft as artisans of the field. The SAFCOL Apprenticeship Programme is a fantastic opportunity that will be conducted in Louis Trichardt (Makahado). During the entire duration of the apprenticeships, selected candidates will be acquiring new knowledge that will strengthen their practical and workplace capabilities. These activities are accredited by the Skills Development Act. Nearing the end of the programme, apprentices must complete a summative assessment before they can receive their Qualified Artisan certificate.

Interested candidates of the SAFCOL Apprenticeship Programmes must not be employed by the time of registration. If your application is successful, you will receive training given by a credible Training Centre. Afterwards, apprentices must perform their work duties in the company’s sawmill Timbadola. The apprenticeships will take place for a total period of three years. Apprentices are expected to make use of this long duration of time to develop their respective trades. Apprentices will be entitled to a monthly allowance to support their journey.

The SAFCOL Artisan Development Programme – Apprenticeships is available for the following fields:

  • Diesel Mechanic (Motor Trade)
  • Fitter & Turner
  • Boiler Making
  • Electrical
  • Millwright

Eligibility Criteria
The SAFCOL Apprenticeship Programmes is only available for individuals that meet their eligibility criteria. Each requirements will determine whether you are well-deserving enough of the opportunity or not. To guarantee a level of success with your applications, it is advisable that you meet all of the qualifications below. Failure to do so might cost you your position in the apprenticeship. Be sure to take note of all the requirements for future reference.

The SAFCOL Apprenticeship Programmes Eligibility Criteria are as listed below:

  • Officially recognized as a citizen of South Africa
  • Ages 18-35 years old during the time of the programme
  • Not employed by a company at the moment
  • Has finished their Grade 12 qualification with flying colors (optional, but advantageous)
  • Possess at least an N2/Level 3 Technical Vocational, Education and Training (TVET) certificate in any one of the aforementioned fields
  • Preference will be offered to these designated groups:
    • Previously Disadvantaged Individuals
    • People with disabilities
    • Females
    • Youths residing in the company’s plantations
    • Communities that have partnered with SAFCOL.

Closing Date
Applications for the SAFCOL Apprenticeship Programmes must be submitted to the selection committee before the closing date on 07 November 2023.
