About Premier
In 2024, Premier South Africa proudly celebrates 200 years of operation, marking two centuries of building a strong reputation for producing reliable and trusted staple food brands since its establishment in 1824. A significant turning point came in 2011, when Brait acquired a majority stake in the company. This acquisition ushered in a period of strategic transformation, enabling Premier to evolve beyond its traditional focus on staple foods and strengthen its footprint within the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector.
Today, Premier is a major player in the regional food and manufacturing industry, generating an annual turnover of R18.6 billion and providing employment to more than 8,600 people. Its extensive operations include 13 bakeries, 7 wheat mills, 3 maize mills, and several manufacturing facilities that produce a broad product portfolio, ranging from biscuits and pasta to animal feeds and mageu. These products are distributed through a network of 28 depots located across South Africa, Eswatini, Mozambique, and Lesotho, reinforcing Premier’s strong regional reach and operational scale.
