The PathCare Academy is providing once in a lifetime opportunities of intelligent youths to participate in their fantastic Medical Technician & Phlebotomy Learnership programmes.

The PathCare Academy – Phlebotomy Learnership is the ideal opportunity for like-minded individuals who are interested in the wonders of science. The programme is on the lookout for candidates who have a strong work ethic, and have a passion for fulfilling the needs of customers. If you have a particular passion for the field of phlebotomy, you wouldn’t want to miss out on this programme.

Selected participants of the PathCare Academy – Phlebotomy Learnership will be subjected to a combination of theoretical training and practical working sessions. The theoretical training itself will take up to 8 months in Pretoria’s PathCare Academy. Depending on the number of available seats, some selected learners will be required to move to Cape Town instead. This learning arrangement will be determined by the selection committee. Meanwhile, practical working sessions will be conducted in any of one the PathCare centres established in South Africa. Interested candidates are expected to be available for possible relocation in the future.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates are more than welcome to apply for the PathCare Academy – Phlebotomy Learnership, provided if they fulfill the programme’s eligibility criteria. The programme’s requirements will be used by the selection committee when putting their candidates under fair assessment. To guarantee a safe position during the registration period, it is highly advisable that you meet all these requirements below. Failure to do so might get you disqualified from applications. The PathCare Academy – Phlebotomy Learnership Eligibility Criteria are as follows:
1. Basic Requirements

  • For Medical Technician Learnership: Passed their Grade 12 qualification with theses subjects and scores: Mathematics: ≥50%, AND Physical Science/Life Science/Biology ≥50%
  • For Phlebotomy Learnership: Passed their Grade 12 qualification with theses subjects and scores: Life Science/Biology: ≥50% OR Primary Health N4 HBM ≥60%, AND Math Literacy ≥60% OR Mathematics ≥40%
  • Between 18-35 years old at the time of the learnership.

2. Working Competencies

  • Shows fluency in both written and spoken English
  • Grasps a basic, fluent understanding of both written and spoken Afrikaans
  • Can work independently and in a team effectively
  • Capable of working under pressure while being a hard-working learner
  • Has an impressively strong work ethic
  • Does not hesitate to acquire and/or process products that deal with blood or bodily fluids
  • Provides friendly customer service and willing to go above clients’ expectations
  • Prepared to work irregular shifts and overtime (if required).

3. Verification Process
Candidates will also be assessed based on these following items:

  • Screening of the candidate’s application form
  • Assessing their academic transcripts
  • Proficiency tests (conducted through online mediums)
  • Panel interviews held by the committee.

Closing Date
Applications for the PathCare Academy – Phlebotomy Learnership 2023 must be submitted before the closing date on 23 September 2022.

Please be kindly advised that the selection committee has absolute zero tolerance for late submissions. Applications sent in past the deadline will not be acknowledged by the selection committeee.
