merSETA Bursaries 2021: Searching for Candidates Pursuing BSc Degree or National Diploma

About merSETA
merSETA is a South African establishment recognised under the 23 SETAs responsible for promoting the Skills Development Act. Mainly focusing on the fields of Manufacturing, Engineering, and Related Services, merSETA was formed to facilitate all forms of skills development programms that deal in metal and engineering, motor retail and component manufacturing, the plastics industries, auto manufacturing, and tyre manufacturing. Altogether, merSETA has been accountable for the total levy income reaching up to R600 000-million. This wouldn’t be possible without the help of 44 000 partnering companies and the hardworking souls of more than 600 000 people that have been a part of merSETA since its establishment in 2000.

About the merSETA Bursaries 2021
merSETA is offering financial assistance for bright-minded South African students who are pursuing Degree or Diploma education in tertiary institutions. The merSETA Bursaries is an all-inclusive programme that welcomes people of all different backgrounds. As an awardee, you will be provided with the necessary support to chase after your academic qualification. If you display exemplary academic scores and valuable qualities as a student, you are more than encouraged to give this opportunity a shot.

The merSETA Bursaries are offered for the following fields:
1. University Courses (Undergraduate Programmes)

• Chemical Engineering (BSc)
• Industrial Engineering (BSc)
• Metallurgy and Materials Engineering (BSc)
• Electrical Engineering (Light and Heavy Current and Electronic) (BSc)
• Mechanical Engineering (including Mechatronics) (BSc)

2. University of Technology (Semester Course)

• Electrical Engineering (Light and Heavy Current and Electronic) (National Diploma)
• Chemical Engineering (National Diploma)
• Industrial Engineering (National Diploma)
• Mechanical Engineering (National Diploma)
• Metallurgy and Materials Engineering (National Diploma)
• Production and Operations Management (National Diploma)
• Polymer Technology (National Diploma)

The merSETA Bursaries will be offered to candidates from 1st year of studies. However, current students that have partially finished their studies with exemplary scores but don’t have financial means to continue their education are encouraged to give this programme a shot.

Candidates who are proven to obtain other sources of funding (e.g. bursaries, scholarships, loans, etc.), will need to inform this to the Bursary Scheme Manager.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates interested in the merSETA Bursaries must fulfill an eligibility criteria before proceeding with their applications. Each of these items below will determine whether you have what it takes to proceed with this bursaries. To guarantee a successful application, candidates are advised to meet all of the following requirements. Failure to do so will cause disadvantageous consequences towards the overall result of your applications. Be sure to jot down these items for personal reference.

The merSETA Bursaries Eligibility Criteria are as follows:

• Officially recognized as a citizen of South Africa
• Must be unemployed at the moment and planning to work in the sectors of Manufacturing,
• Engineering, and anything related to the sectors
  • Or, you are employed at any merSETA registered establishment
• Must fulfill the minimum admission criteria in your respective tertiary institution
• Enrolling or planning to enroll in one of the Degree/Diploma fields mentioned above
• Enrolling or planning to enroll in a University/University of Technology in South Africa.

Candidates are required to provide the following documents:

• A certified copy of your Identity Document
• A certified copy of your Matric certificate
• Legitimate proof of application/registration at an accredited University/University of Technology in South Africa
• A certified copy of your most recent tertiary report slip (if currently studying)
• Legitimate proof of any funding sources that you are currently receiving for your studies.

Make sure that all of these documents are included in your application dossier. Incomplete dossiers will not be considered for the programme.

When sending your applications, please make sure to mention the words “merSETA Bursary Application Request” in the email subject line.

By sending in your applications, you are hereby giving permission to the selection committee to have your personal information utilized for registration purposes.

Applications will be subjected to further evaluation and vetting procedures to verify the validity of candidates. Anyone discovered to be falsifying any aspects of their applications will be disqualified from the registration period.

Candidates must process their applications through the portal provided above. Submissions made through other methods, such as email or fax, will not be accepted by the selection committee.

Closing Date
Applications for the merSETA Bursaries must be submitted before the closing date on 30 June 2021 for the first semester & 30 September 2021 for the second semester.

The selection committee has absolute zero tolerance for late applications. Submissions made past the closing date will not be acknowledged during the registration period.

Candidates are advised to send in their applications as soon as possible. This will leave you with some time to properly evaluate the contents of your applications. Kindly prepare your applications at your earliest convenience.
