The City of Johannesburg is offering a training opportunity for dedicated and physically fit individuals who aspire to become Metropolitan Police Officers. Successful candidates will undergo an intensive 18-month training programme that adheres to the JMPD Academy standards and RTMC policies. Trainees will receive a stipend during the programme and are expected to comply with the terms of the training contract and academy regulations.

Upon successful completion of the programme and fulfillment of all training requirements, candidates will be eligible for deployment as fully qualified Metropolitan Police Officers within any area of the City of Johannesburg.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in structured law enforcement and public safety training
  • Undergo rigorous physical fitness and classroom instruction
  • Enforce city by-laws and traffic regulations (post-qualification)
  • Uphold the integrity, professionalism, and conduct expected of a JMPD officer
  • Work under varying conditions, including shifts and extreme weather.

Job Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Hold a valid Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent NQF Level 4
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 35
  • Possess a valid Code B Driver’s License (no learner’s license)
  • Be medically and mentally fit (submit a comprehensive medical certificate)
  • Have no criminal record or civil judgment related to fraud/corruption
  • Be proficient in English
  • Be willing and able to undergo biometric screening and vetting processes
  • Be a resident within the City of Johannesburg jurisdiction (proof of residence required)
  • Be prepared to carry a firearm and wear a uniform
  • Be able to successfully pass a physical fitness assessment
  • Must be reliable, honest, and act with integrity under pressure and in all weather conditions
  • Must not have any professional misconduct record
  • Be willing to work flexible hours, including shifts.
