About Gibela
The Gibela Rail Transport Consortium, or commonly referred to as Gibela, is a company that aims to revive the state of South Africa’s railway sector. Established in 2013, the Gibela has racked up various accomplishments as a black economic empowerment company. The entity is responsible for the manufacturing of 600 trains that will be utilized by the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa. The company hopes that this advancement in the railway sector will provide quality commuter transport services for the South African general public who are living in urban areas.

Gibela has lent their services to the government in other sectors, such as technical support, supplying spare parts, and train maintenance. The trains are all produced at Gibela’s world-class factory based in the Ekuhuleni area, which is worth up to R1-billion in facilities. The company has a long history in job creation. Gibela is offering bursary opportunities to academically talented South African students who require immediate financial aid to pursue their education. The Gibela Bursaries is a great chance for young citizens to attain the assistance they need in order to chase after their ambitions. University and University of Technology:

  • Accounting
  • Industrial Engineering

Selected bursars will be entitled to financial coverage for their student-related expenses. The bursary will cover full tuition expenses, prescribed study materials, accommodations costs and daily meals.

The Gibela Bursaries will only be awarded for a total duration of one (1) year. However, bursars have the option of renewing it on a yearly basis. This is provided that bursars show exemplary progress through their previous academic year.

Eligibility Criteria
The Gibela Bursaries welcomes anyone who displays impressive academic track records. However, there are other things that candidates must fulfill to be considered eligible for the programme. Before getting started on your registration, candidates must meet all of these requirements to guarantee a successful application. Failure to do so might possibly reduce your chances of getting accepted by the programme. Be sure to jot down all of these items for personal reference.

The Gibela Bursaries Eligibility Criteria are as follows:
1. Basic Requirements

  • Officially recognized as a citizen of South Africa (owns a South African bar-coded Identity Document)
  • Registered or plans to enroll at a University or University of Technology in South Africa
  • Requires immediate financial aid
  • N3/N4 students are welcomed to apply
  • Shows exemplary academic track records.

2. Prerequisite Requirements

  • Possesses a Matric qualification with these scores below:
    • Level 4 for Mathematics, Science, and English (for TVET student)
    • Level 6 for Physical Science, Mathematics, & Accounting, also level 5 for English (for University/University of Technology student)
  • Provides a written proof of acceptance for admission to a South African University or University of Technology.

  • Valid copies of your academic records
  • A valid copy of your South African Identity Document.

By sending in your applications, you are hereby giving permission to have your personal information utilized for registration purposes.

Applications will be subjected to further evaluation and vetting procedures to verify the validity of candidates. Anyone discovered to be falsifying any aspects of their applications will automatically be disqualified from the registration process.

Candidates are to make their submission either through email or fax. Submissions made through other methods, such as hand delivery, will not be accepted by the selection committee.

Note: your CV should contain your strengths, skills, and accomplishments as a student. This information will help the selection committee get a better understanding of your academic records. Additionally, please indicate your correct contact information on your CV. The selection committee might need this information to follow up on you.

Closing Date
Applications for the Gibela Bursaries must be submitted before the closing date on 15 January 2023.

The selection committee has absolute zero tolerance for late submissions. Candidates found to be sending in their applications past the deadline will not be considered for the programme.

Announcements will only be made to shortlisted candidates. Should you not hear back from the selection committee by 28 February 2023, we regret to inform you that you have not been accepted.

Gibela reserves the rights to make an appointment or not during the recruitment process. All decisions made by the selection committee are final.
