The Gibela Rail Transport Consortium, or commonly referred to as Gibela, is a company that aims to revive the state of South Africa’s railway sector. Established in 2013, the Gibela has racked up various accomplishments as a black economic empowerment company. The entity is responsible for the manufacturing of 600 trains that will be utilized by the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa. The company hopes that this advancement in the railway sector will provide quality commuter transport services for the South African general public who are living in urban areas.
Gibela has lent their services to the government in other sectors, such as technical support, supplying spare parts, and train maintenance. The trains are all produced at Gibela’s world-class factory based in the Ekuhuleni area, which is worth up to R1-billion in facilities. The company has a long history in job creation. Gibela has welcomed individuals of all different backgrounds, mainly historically disadvantaged South Africans and women.
