About the Dept of Tourism Learnerships 2023
The Dept of Tourism is offering learnership programmes for unemployed applicants who wish to obtain knowledge in Chefs Training or Wine Service Training. The Dept of Tourism Learnerships is a series of programmes that each takes place for a total duration of 12 months. Candidates will be required to be fully committed throughout the entire period of the learnership, in which you will be binded by a contract.

The Dept of Tourism Learnerships is offering programmes for two fields:
1. Food Safety Assurers Skills Programme
Location: KwaZulu-Natal Department of Tourism
Requirements: Grade 12/Matric with fluency in English or with preferably a Tourism and Hospitality qualification. Applicants should be between the age of 18-35

2. Professional Cookery Programme
Location: North West Department of Tourism
Requirements: Grade 12/Matric with fluency in English or with preferably a Tourism and Hospitality qualification. Applicants should be between the age of 18-35

1. Chefs Training Learnership Programme
Applicants who are interested in pursuing a career in the Professional Cookery field are encouraged to register for this programme. Applicants will receive an opportunity to learn more about the industry, and receive the skills and attributes needed to create a career in the hospitality industry. Upon successful completion of the programme, you will entitled to a National Certificate in Professional Cookery (NQF Level 4).

2. Wine Service Training Learnership Programme
Applicants in this learnership will be subjected to a training curriculum that combines both 30% theory and 70% practical exposure. In this field, you will receive the skills needed to serve wine beverages and deliver with ultimate customer satisfaction.

The Dept of Tourism Learnerships Eligibility Criteria are as follows:

  • Currently between 18-35 years old
  • Has a Grade 12 or Matrics qualification
  • Shows a great understanding and fluency of English.

Candidates will be required to send in their Curriculum Vitae to one of the addresses above. Additionally, you will need to submit a letter of motivation, a certified copy of your Identity Document, legitimate proof of residence, and other qualifications that are relevant to your position.

If you have participated in a learnership programme or skills programme held by the Department prior to this one, please indicate it in your letter of motivation.

All the documents above should be included in your applications – incomplete dossiers will not be accepted by the programme.

By sending in your applications, you are hereby giving permission to the selection committee to have your personal information utilized for registration purposes.

Applications will be subjected to further evaluation and vetting procedures to verify the validity of candidates. Anyone discovered to be falsifying any aspects of their applications will be disqualified from the registration period.

Closing Date
Applications for the Dept of Tourism Learnerships 2023 must be submitted before the closing date on 05 May 2023.

Since there is still an adequate amount of time before the closing date, applicants are highly encouraged to send in an early application. An early submission will leave you with more time to double check the contents of your application and to see if all information is in order.

Announcements will only be made to shortlisted candidates. If you do not hear back from the selection committee within 2 weeks past the closing date, we regret to inform you that you have not succeeded with your applications.

If you are shortlisted for the programme, please prepare yourself for further interview.

The selection committee strictly disallows candidate from sending in applications past the closing date. Anyone found to be submitting late applications will not be entertained by the selection committee.

The Dept of Tourism reserve all rights to provide a learnership or not during the registration period. All decisions made by the selection committee are final.
