Dept of Science and Innovation National Youth Service Programme 2020-2021
The Dept of Science and Innovation is offering 550 available positions for unemployed, South African graduates under their National Youth Service Programme. Taking place in Pretoria, the National Youth Service Programme is accepting applications for their 2020/2021 period. The programme itself is mainly provided for students who are attaining their education in STEM.

Selected participants of the National Youth Service Programme will be relocated to a number of accredited institutions all over South Africa. These could either be schools, science committees, tertiary institutions, or Non-Governmental Organizations). Participants will receive working exposure for a total period of 12 months under these settings. At the same time, participants are able to greatly contribute to their local society with their knowledge and services.

Programme Stipends
Accepted participants of the Dept of Science and Innovation National Youth Service Programme 2020-2021 will be entitled to a monthly stipend. However, please be informed that the stipend amount differs from one qualification to another. Take a look below for more information:

  • National Diploma (NQF Level 6): R4 500
  • Bachelor’s degree/BTech (NQF Level 7): R5 000
  • Honours degree (NQF Level 8): R5 500
  • Master’s degree (NQF Level 9): R6 500
  • PhD (NQF Level 10): R7 700

Note: any forms of relocation or travel expenses are not the responsibility of the National Youth Service Programme.

The Dept of Science and Innovation National Youth Service Programme 2020-2021 requirements are as follows:

  • Graduates who are not employed by any company
  • Between 18-35 years old at the time of application
  • Pursued a qualification in any one of the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)
  • Able to allocate 12 months out of your time to participate in the programme.

  • Valid copies of your Identity Document
  • Valid copies of your available qualifications
  • A brief letter of motivation stating why you wish to be a part of the programme
  • Proof of residence
  • Your ideal province and institution that you wish to be relocated to.

Please make sure that you do not leave any documents behind. All documents will be used to asses your potential as a future participant of the programme. Failure to provide all of the requested documents will have your applications disqualified.

Similarly, documents should display your correct, personal information. Candidates discovered to be falsifying any parts of their applications will also be disqualified from registration.

Announcements will only be made to candidates who have been chosen for the programme. Should you not hear back from the committee within a total duration of three months past the closing date, we regret to inform you that you have not been selected for the National Youth Service Programme.

Closing Date
The closing date for the Dept of Science and Innovation National Youth Service Programme applications falls on 18 September 2020. Registration must be done before the deadline. Candidates found to be sending in late applications will not be acknowledged by the selection committee. Since the registration is done through e-mail, it is highly advised that candidates do their submissions way before the closing date to prevent any last-minute disruptions (e.g. heavy online traffic).
