The City of Ekurhuleni, which can be situated in the center of the Gauteng province in South Africa, is aiming to become the continent’s very first aerotropolis. It is home to 5.4 percent of the country’s population and 29 percent of the population of the province of Gauteng, and it occupies 15.6 percent of the territory in Gauteng. The Growth and Development Strategy 2055 was formally endorsed by the City of Ekurhuleni in the year 2013.
