The City of Ekurhuleni Community Bursary Programme 2026 is designed to assist academically capable students who plan to pursue full-time undergraduate studies during the 2026 academic year. The programme supports talented youth from within the municipality by helping them gain access to higher education and develop skills that are aligned with local government service delivery priorities.
Eligible applicants may apply for bursary funding in various study fields, including:
- Environmental Science
- Finance, Accounting, and Auditing
- Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering
- Information Technology, Computer Science, or Data Science
- Health Sciences
- Town and Regional Planning or Architecture.
Only qualifications offered by accredited South African universities, universities of technology, or TVET colleges will be considered.
The bursary may cover several academic expenses, subject to the availability of funds, such as:
- Registration and tuition fees
- Prescribed academic textbooks
- Accommodation and meals where applicable.
This bursary is renewable each year, provided that recipients maintain satisfactory academic performance.
Bursary Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a South African citizen residing within the City of Ekurhuleni (proof required)
- Be between 18 and 35 years old
- Have successfully completed Grade 12
- Possess an acceptance letter or proof of registration for the 2026 academic year at an accredited institution
- Provide evidence of total household monthly income.
Additional conditions include:
- Successful candidates must sign a bursary agreement with the municipality
- Recipients must achieve a minimum annual average of 70% to continue receiving funding
- Students may be required to participate in vacation work within municipal departments
- The municipality may withdraw the bursary in cases of poor academic results or misconduct.
