The City of Cape Town is offering a learnership for South African youths who have a passion for pursuing a future career as a professional Fire Fighter. You will get a solid foundation in this industry via the City of Cape Town Fire Fighter Learnership, which is an exceptional learnership. A planned curriculum will be followed during the duration of the program, which will include both theoretical evaluations and practical working sessions that will take place in a real-world business environment. As you work your way towards a certification, you will be encouraged to make significant progress under the supervision of expert training providers.

Learners of the City of Cape Town Fire Fighter Learnership will be entitled to a basic salary of  R199 340 pa as a means of support for the entire duration of the programme.

Eligibility Criteria

The City of Cape Town Fire Fighter Learnership Eligibility Criteria are as follows:
1. Basic Requirements

  • Possesses a Grade 12 certificate (for the subjects of Mathematics and Physical Science)
  • Above 18 years old
  • Is not afraid of heights or small spaces
  • Both physically and medically fit to overcome any situation
  • Prepared to work with other team members
  • Can undertake pressure in stressful work situations
  • Has a clear criminal track record.

Shortlisted candidates are required to participate in a compulsory fitness test, with the following results:

  • 2.4km run (Male candidates must reach 11 minutes, Female candidates must reach 13 minutes
  • 30 Sit-ups (60 seconds)
  • So Push-ups (60 seconds)
  • 1.9m Rech test
  • Perform dead load carries (2 x 25kg for 100m).

Once you have fulfilled the requirements of the compulsory fitness test, you will need to perform the following requirements:

  • Obtain a passing mark for their written assessment and an interview after that
  • Send in their fingerprints/identity numbers (to check criminal track records)
  • Perform a city medical evaluation
  • Undertake a mandatory drug test (held at any city testing locations).

Candidates will need to create an account on the application portal. Make sure you have this account with you at all times if you want to send in your registrations.

Candidates are also required to submit a certified copy of your South African Identity Document (the committee does not accept affidavits). Additionally, you will also need to submit a certified copy of your Matric certificate.

Due to the sensitive nature of your account, make sure you keep your account credentials a secret at all times. This is to ensure that your account is not used by unwanted strangers behind your back.

By submitting your application, you are granting the selection committee permission to use your personal information for registration purposes.

Applications will be evaluated and vetted further to ensure the authenticity of applicants. Falsifying any element of their applications will exclude them from the registration period.

Candidates must submit their applications via the above-mentioned site. Other means of submission, such as personal delivery or fax, will be rejected by the selection committee.

Closing Date
Applications for the City of Cape Town Fire Fighter Learnership must be submitted before the closing date on 04 April 2024.

The selection committee has absolute zero tolerance for late applications. Submissions made past the closing date will not be acknowledged during the registration period.

    1. Greetings, I just want to clarify on the required subjects, why do you need physics & mathematics to partake in this learnership ? I do non of the above can I still apply for the learnership?
