CAPACITI, a key initiative under UVU Africa, is committed to transforming lives through digital education and opportunity. Rooted in the belief that digital skills are essential for building a more inclusive future, CAPACITI focuses on more than just closing the skills gap—it aims to open doors to meaningful and sustainable careers. By combining technical training with life skills development, the programme empowers individuals to thrive both personally and professionally. The organisation evolved into the Cape Innovation & Technology Initiative (CiTi) in 2015 and has since expanded its reach through strategic initiatives. These include the Bandwidth Barn—Africa’s oldest tech incubator—which extended into Khayelitsha to support township entrepreneurs excluded from the digital economy. In response to the challenge of financial exclusion, UVU Africa launched a FinTech cluster to promote innovation in financial services, leading to the establishment of Barclays Rise’s Africa FinTech Accelerator in Cape Town. This move positioned Cape Town as a leading FinTech hub.

Participants will specialize in one of the high-demand IT streams listed below, gaining expertise that aligns with current market needs and employer expectations.

You will be expted to perform the duties below:

Eligibility Criteria

The CAPACITI IT Demand Learnership’s Eligibility Criteria are as follows:

• Confirm your South African citizenship by birth
• Fall within the age range of 18 to 34 years
• Meet the minimum qualification requirement by completing NQF Level 4 or an equivalent
• Gain knowledge or hold qualifications in IT fundamentals (advantageous); no previous work experience required
• Submit your academic record and certificate reflecting your highest level of academic achievement
• Demonstrate basic computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office, and a foundational understanding of IT concepts such as hardware, software, and networking
• Show strong verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to work both independently and in a team
• Maintain a clean criminal record and a clear credit history
• Be unemployed at the time of application
• Commit to attending the full-time Learnership Programme from Monday to Friday (08:00 – 17:00) and complete the full 12-month duration
• Identify as an Employment Equity (EE) candidate, with preference given to People with Disabilities (PWD).
